Help With Coral Restoration
When You're in Bali!

Give back to the reefs by spending a few days helping with maintaining and expanding our coral restoration sites.

In March 2026 we will be hosting our first Volunteer Programme focusing on coral reef restoration at our nursery in Amed. As part of the programme you will gain hands-on experience maintaining the nursery; outplanting corals, managing pests and diseases, and monitoring the health of the reef.

The programme will cost USD $900 per person to cover training costs. We are also asking volunteers to cover the cost incurred during their stay (food, scuba equipment, accomodation). If you are not bringing your own equipment, it can be arranged for USD $300 for the month.  As a small NGO, all of our donations and funding goes directly towards coral restoration and research to protect our reefs now and in the future.

Like all of our courses, the Volunteer Programme is designed for people with an active interest in Marine Biology, or desire to work in coral reef restoration. Places are limited and so we ask volunteers to submit a cover letter and CV as part of their application to help us select the best candidates.

What’s included?

Based around Lipah Bay, Amed, the programme lasts for four weeks and includes 5 dives per week, giving volunteers plenty of time to explore Bali.

During this month you will receive expert training from our instructors:

  • Week 1: you will complete our Intro to Coral Restoration course; learn about the different Genera of corals, their reproductive processes and different restoration techniques.
  • Week 2 and 3: Increase your knowledge of coral restoration and how to manage pests and diseases by completing our Expanded Coral Restoration course and then put your knowledge in to practice as you help us to maintain the nursery,
  • Week 4: you will learn Reef Monitoring Techniques (from our professional level Coral Restoration certificate); teaching you how to monitor and assess the health of the reef, and learn how to use photogrammetry to create 3D models and orthomosaics, alongside underwater surveys, to monitor the effectiveness of our restoration efforts over time

These courses will teach you how to correctly identify common corals, take proper precautions to avoid damaging them or injuring yourself, and recognize coral-eating predators and diseases—all crucial skills for maintaining healthy coral nurseries and reefs.

What will you do during your volunteer time?

While weeks 1 and 4 focus on providing you with the skills and knowledge to understand, maintain and monitor the reef, Weeks 2 and 3 give you hands-on experience working in the nursery itself. This will  include:

  • Expansion of restoration site through coral planting
  • Combing the restoration site and coral nursery for coral predators (Crown of Thorns starfish and Drupella snails) and removing them
  • Cleaning coral ropes and the nursery of algae and soft-corals, to prevent them being overgrown

Programme Fees

The volunteer training is offered at a reduced rate of $900 per person in appreciation of your volunteer efforts. This includes the Expanded Coral Restoration course and Reef Monitoring Techniques from the Full Coral Restoration certificate, typically costing $1,440.

This fee does not include standard dive equipment, meals, or accommodation. There are a number of homestays or other accommodation options in the area to suit any budget, and we can provide details of different options on request.

If you do not have your own dive equipment we can arrange this for you at an additional cost of $300.
